MESSAGE: “Free From Worry”
——————————————————–

TEXT: Matthew 6:25-34

As we look through today’s text, we see that Jesus calls his followers not to worry, to instead, seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness.

Question for today: How can I be free from worry, especially in times of uncertainty? Jesus helps us understand how to live life faithfully, live life simply, and live life missionally.

• Live life faithfully.

Matthew 5:39-42
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?  Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?  Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? (NIV)

Ecclesiastes 6:7
All the toil of man is for his mouth, yet his appetite is not satisfied. (ESV)

“The only thing money gives you is the freedom of not worrying about money.” – Johnny Carson.

• Live life simply

1 Timothy 6:6-8
But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. (NIV)

Matthew 6:31-34
31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Proverbs 27:24
…for riches do not endure forever, and a crown is not secure for all generations.

“I was happier when I was doing a mechanic’s job.” – Henry Ford.

• Live life missionally.

Matthew 6:33
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

1 Timothy 6:17-19
Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.
