True Happiness 4.19.20 SERIES: Praying The Psalms

SERIES: Praying the Psalms

TEXT: Psalms 1

MESSAGE: “True Happiness”

——————————————————–

TEXT: Psalms 1:1-6

As we look through today’s text, we see that being blessed, literally, being happy, is not something that we get by seeking to be happy, but by being rooted in the Lord in every part of our life.  It begins by seeing Him as worthy of our life.

Question for today:  How can I grow deeper in my faith during these trying times and live a life of blessedness, or happiness, in any circumstance?

  • Prioritize God as being worthy of my life and attention.

Psalms 1:1-2

Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers,  but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night.

Psalms 1:3

That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers.

1 Peter 1:6

In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials.

  • Live my life according to God’s Word

Matthew 6:33

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Psalms 1:1

Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers,

Ephesians 4:29-32

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

Psalms 119:105

Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.

Psalms 1:3

That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers.

Psalms 1:4

Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away.

  • Know that God knows me.

Psalms 1:5

Therefore, the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

1 John 5:13-14

I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.  This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.

Psalms 1:6

For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.

TAKEAWAYS: What can we apply to our lives?

  • Where do you stand?  Where do you go for council?  God is worthy of our attention and reliance.  Go to the Lord in prayer and seek Him first.
  • Where do you walk?  What is your life like?  Live according to His Word and let it light your path.  Ask God to help you.
  • Where do you sit?  Who are you surrounded by?  Be with others who encourage, who help, and seek righteousness.  Pray for discernment and wisdom.
